Limerick sister and brother put their best foot forward in Macra competitions

Brother and sister: Brian and Mary O'Reilly of Limerick City Macra

IF THERE was an award for Macra Siblings of the Year then Mary and Brian O’Reilly would have it sewn up!

Brian did Limerick Macra proud last month as the county’s representative in the Mr Personality contest in Kilkenny. Now, it’s Mary’s turn as she represents Limerick Macra at the 2025 Blue Jean Country Queen Festival this weekend.

It is organised by Meath Macra na Feirme and the Athboy community, and sponsored by Le Chéile Credit Union.

Mary, aged 26, a quality control co-ordinator and member of Limerick City Macra, balances her professional life with a love for adventure.

Her hobbies include tag rugby, hiking, gardening, road trips, and stepping in as a stand-in farmer on the family dairy farm in Boher. The self-proclaimed Taylor Swift superfan brings energy and humour to every occasion.

The daughter of Michael and Margaret has five other siblings - the aforementioned Brian, James, Donal, Sarah and Anne.

Twenty-one contestants, including a Queen from New Zealand, will arrive in Athboy, Co. Meath, on Friday, for a weekend of free family fun days, BBQs, karaoke, and nighttime entertainment.

While the weekend prioritises  fun, the winner receives a tiara, golden sash, and perpetual cup from 2024 Queen Alannah Finnegan (Cavan), plus €1,000 from Le Chéile Credit Union. Second place earns €500 (Turmec Recycling) and third €300 (Farrelly Tree Service Ltd).
