A TOTAL of 16 rural water services in Limerick have been allocated over €2.8 million in capital investment funding to deliver essential water infrastructure.

Minister Patrick O’Donovan and Minister of State Niall Collins said funding of €73.9m has been allocated for 291 projects across Ireland under the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme 2024–2026.

In Limerick, the funding package will deliver major improvements to local water infrastructure, with Lough Gur Group Water Scheme receiving €229,649 and Knockainey–Kilballyowen allocated €83,725. Smaller but vital projects will also benefit, including €17,113 for Shrove Knockrour, €21,250 for Griston and €97,665 for Glenbrohane.

Two of the county’s largest allocations will go to Ballybricken–Luddenmore (€755,948) and Caherline Newtown (€543,660).

Mr O'Donovan said the announcement is great news for communities in Limerick. “It’s so important that we protect our water sources and ensure the highest standards in water treatment.

“The completion of these projects will allow Group Water Schemes to continue to improve the quality, quantity and reliability of the water services across Limerick. This funding to improve our water and waste water facilities will go a long way to supporting communities in Limerick”, concluded Mr O’Donovan.

Mr Collins said this welcome capital funding announcement will improve water quality in rural Limerick. “Safe and secure water supplies are absolutely crucial to our quality of life and the funding being allocated will help to make rural Limerick communities better places to live in, work and visit.”

Mr Collins added: “These projects will make a real difference and will make our local communities more sustainable.”
