ELECTED: Jerome Scanlan tops the poll in Newcastle West
The councillor has retained his seat
COUNCILLOR Jerome Scanlan has topped the poll in the first count for the Newcastle West area.
The Feohanagh councillor got 2,301 first preference votes - with a surplus of 376 votes over the quota of 1,925.
He was joined in the first count success by fellow sitting councillors Liam Galvin and Michael Collins.
Cllr Scanlan also topped the poll in 2019 - getting 2,512 votes five years ago.
Unlike the other two county Limerick electoral areas, Newcastle West was the only area with no retiring councillors - all six current councillors were fighting to retain their seats.
There are also another six councillors who are new faces to the game who are hoping to gain a seat.
In Adare-Rathkeale, two councillors retired - Cllr Kevin Sheahan and Cllr Emmett O'Brien.
Equally in Cappamore-Kilmallock, two councillors counted themselves out of the running - Cllr Gerald Mitchell and Cllr John Egan.
