University of Limerick stops social network updates on X

College 'to use other networks' to engage with its audience

University of Limerick stops social network updates on X

University of Limerick will no longer issue updates on X, formerly Twitter

UNIVERSITY of Limerick (UL) has announced it will no longer be posting on the social media website, X, formerly Twitter.

The college said it made a decision following a review.

In a statement, published on X, which is owned by controversial billionaire Elon Musk, the college wrote it would use other social media networks to engage with its audience.

“Due to the sustained decline in engagement, concern as to the veracity of performance data, the prevalence of automated traffic, an ongoing EU regulatory review and the increased presence of toxic content, UL will cease posting on X,” it confirmed in a post.

UL has almost 36,000 followers on X, but its profile on the platform states that it is “an archived account”.

“This decision aligns with our commitment to responsible digital communication and safeguarding our online community as well as our own team members,” the college’s statement added.

UL remains active on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Tiktok, Mastodon, YouTube and Bluesky.

It says it is open to reviewing the decision in future.
