Green Limerick: Young people invited to ‘take charge’ on eco issues

Sarah O’Connell, development officer of Ballyhoura Development CLG, spearheading the YesSDGs project for young people

BALLYHOURA Development is inviting youth workers and young people aged 18 to 30 from across Limerick to engage with a free European initiative.

The Youth Empowerment for the Sustainable Development Goals (YeSDGs) project aims to empower young people to take charge of issues that are important to them, in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Such issues regard social issues, climate issues, cost of living issues and much more, giving those who wish to partake a chance to make an impact in their areas.

By joining YeSDGs, participants receive support to understand the relevance of the European Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Limerick.

It also helps to identify and co-develop tools to empower more young people to amplify their voices on issues that are important to them and drive local actions to help create change.

“This is your moment to lead the change!” said a spokesperson from the Ballyhoura Development Association.

“Join YeSDGs and help Europe and the world achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Youth 4 Global Goals (Youth4GG) is an initiative that aims to activate young people to contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also referred to as the Global Goals and Agenda 2030.

Activating youth will happen in three stages: awareness, understanding and action.

The simple framework allows organisations, such as Ballyhoura Development Association in working with youth around the SDGs.

The core of the initiative is to drive action by young people to create a better world, and move beyond the traditional role in advocacy.

Ballyhoura Development is a community-led Local Development Company, and charity, which works with communities in the Ballyhoura region of East Limerick and North Cork.

The company has successfully implemented a wide range of national and European projects and programmes since its establishment in 1989.
