Sgt Walsh advised people to always take their time before investing.
“Be extremely cautious of online advertisements or unsolicited investment opportunities, particularly those promising high or guaranteed returns.
“Check that any investment firm is properly authorised and never feel pressured into making quick decisions or transferring money. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
Sgt Walsh concluded: “If you think you've been the victim of an investment scam, stop sending money immediately, contact your bank and report the matter to your local Garda station as soon as possible.
