A TEENAGER charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a Limerick nurse has been charged with three further offences at a vacation sitting of Limerick District Court.

Keelan O’Connell, aged 19, of Scanlon Park, Castleconnell appeared before Judge Catherine Ryan this Wednesday morning.

He was charged with a number of offences in March, including dangerous driving causing the death of Áine O’Reilly, aged 33, at the N24, Grange West, Boher, County Limerick, on Friday, February 13, 2026. Mr O’Connell has been remanded in custody since March.

At a previous hearing, Garda Tony Burke, of Henry Street garda station, alleged that on the night in question Mr O’Connell was driving a black 2007 VW Golf with “excess speed” and he attempted a “dangerous manoeuvre” to undertake a Peugeot car.

Garda Burke alleged Mr O’Connell’s VW Golf collided with the Peugeot, forcing the Peugeot into a collision with a Nissan Micra car, which was being driven by Ms O’Reilly. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Giving evidence on foot of the new charges, Garda Burke confirmed to the court that he arrested, charged and cautioned Mr O’Connell. He “made no reply.”

The accused is now charged with three new offences, including failing to offer assistance to the driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision, failing to report this collision to gardai and failing to offer assistance "with the intent to escape civil or criminal liability.”

The three new charges are contrary to Section 106 (1) of the Road Traffic Act.

Mr O’Connell who was was wearing a grey tracksuit in court was silent throughout the brief procedural matter.

Last March, the teenager was charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving without a driver’s licence and driving without insurance at the same location on the same date.

The DPP has directed trial on indictment, in which all charges are proceeding.

Keelan O’Connell will appear before Limerick District Court on August 12 for a procedural hearing. Prosecuting Sergeant Aisling O’Neill informed Judge Catherine Ryan that the book of evidence will be prepared for August 19.

Mr O’Connell was remanded in custody.
