Members of the public restrain suspect on Limerick street

Two gardai responded and arrested the man in Limerick city centre
A NUMBER of civic-minded members of the public restrained a man suspected of committing a public order offence on a busy city street, Limerick Live has learned.
The unusual incident, which drew many onlookers, occurred on William Street on Friday.
Three men, along with the assistance of others, ensured the suspect didn’t flee the scene while they waited for gardai to respond. One man pinned his upper body to the ground while others had a hold of his legs and feet.
The man struggled and shouted as he tried to escape but the three men held firm. The incident lasted a number of minutes.
Two gardai quickly arrived on the scene, put the man in handcuffs and took him away.
Following a media query from Limerick Live to An Garda Siochana, a spokesperson said gardaí responded to a report of a public order incident at William Street, Limerick, at around 4:20pm August 28.
“A man, aged in 30s, was arrested at the scene and charged to appear before Limerick District Court next month,” said the garda spokesperson.
The spokesperson declined to comment on the nature of the public order incident “as this matter is before the courts”.
