Limerick family 'wholeheartedly' believed woman in video was their mum

HSE Mid West issue statement following the conclusion of investigation
A DAUGHTER who believed her mother was the person in a distressing video recorded in a hospital, which was widely shared, has issued a public statement on social media this Sunday evening.
The clip shows an elderly woman being mistreated in a hospital setting. The footage posted to social media shows a healthcare worker abruptly telling her ‘no’ after she asked if she could have a cup of tea.
The same staff member was heard telling the pensioner that she is “crazy”. When the patient asked the worker what food was on the table, the worker said: “You can see, so why are you asking?”
HSE Mid West said earlier this Sunday that an investigation has confirmed that the video does not show the patient identified in media reports, did not occur in University Hospital Limerick or any HSE Mid West facility, and does not involve a member of UHL or HSE Mid West staff. The hospital where the video was taken has not been disclosed.
Subsequently, Aisling Hogan, in a statement shared on social media this Sunday evening, wrote: “I want to publicly correct something very important regarding a video which I previously shared and which I genuinely believed showed my late mother, Ita Tobin.”
It continues: “Following an investigation by University Hospital Limerick (UHL), I have now been informed and accept that the woman shown in that video was not my mother and that the incident did not take place in UHL.”
Ms Hogan said she is “deeply sorry for getting this wrong”.
“When I first saw the video, myself and my family genuinely and wholeheartedly believed the woman was our mother. We wholeheartedly apologise for the upset caused,” concludes the statement.
