'Easy opportunity for a burglar': Gardai investigate car theft in Limerick suburb
Car keys were stolen from inside a house in Castletroy and a 2022 black Ford Fiesta was then taken from the driveway
LIMERICK gardai are investigating a burglary that occurred overnight between July 6 and July 7 at College Court in Castletroy.
Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station commented:
“It’s believed that a downstairs front window may have been left open. During the burglary, car keys were stolen from inside the house and a 2022 black Ford Fiesta was then taken from the driveway.
“We’re appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area, or who has information about the stolen vehicle, to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212400 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”
Sgt O’Halloran said the gardai completely understand that people want to keep their homes cool during warm nights, but an open ground-floor window can provide an “easy opportunity” for a burglar.
“If you need ventilation overnight, try to use upstairs windows where possible, or fit window restrictors that allow airflow while preventing someone from climbing through.
The local crime prevention officer concluded: “Always make sure doors and accessible windows are locked before going to bed, and never leave car keys or house keys visible near windows or doors. A few simple precautions can make a real difference.”
