Limerick brothers Cian and Tom O’Dowd of The Guzzlers band are releasing their debut album in November

BROTHERS Cian and Tom O’Dowd from Montpelier, O’Brien’s Bridge, are releasing their debut album at the start of November.

The Guzzlers who are based in Liverpool released their latest single ‘A Pint of Plain is Your Only Man’ at the start of September, ahead of the album release on November 6.

The newest single got its title form the old expression about how a pint of Guinness never lets you down.

Cian said: “This is a song celebrating Ireland’s favourite drink.

“It only felt right to release one for a pint of stout too – we are very considerate and caring to all types of alcohol in this band,” he joked.

However, beyond the pints and puns, there is emotional depth to the song and it does feature an earnest tone beneath the surface, as the lyrics explore the idea of life not being perfect.

Tom said: “No matter what happens to you in life, you could lose your job, your house or the wife and kids, but a pint of plain will never let you down, unless you get one in a dodgy pub.”

The album ‘Drinking the Dream’ features 10 songs, all telling stories of nights out, the craic and the banter.

The whole album will be entirely acoustic.

Cian explained that this was a deliberate choice for their debut album.

“There’s something special about doing an acoustic album, especially as your first – it’s as raw and personal as you can get.

“All 10 songs are literally the first ten we ever wrote together.”

Tom added: “Our goal was to capture our story through whatever came out and recording it live was the only way to keep that honest.

“We made this album for no one but ourselves. To us, it’s our story and only the beginning of what’s to come.”

The brothers have been described by Hot Press as being “reminiscent of The Pogues.”

The album was produced by Jon Withnall, who has famously worked with Coldplay, Rihanna, Echo and the Bunnymen.

Following the album release, The Guzzlers will also perform over three December dates in Liverpool, London and Manchester.
