Vicious fights break out in the city centre after Limerick v Cork clash

A NUMBER of vicious fights broke out in the city after the Munster championship clash on Sunday, Limerick Live has learned.

A flare was also set off at a commercial premises, causing damage to a canopy.

Videos have emerged on social media of separate incidents of young men fighting - both Limerick and Cork supporters. 

There were brawls involving a number of men and one-on-one fights as others looked on and cheered. A young woman is struck in the face by a man, in one clip. The incidents took place on Bedford Row and Little William Street.

A garda spokesperson confirmed gardaí received a number of reports of alleged public order incidents in Limerick city centre on Sunday evening.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

It is not known if any of those involved required hospital treatment for injuries sustained or have made formal complaints to gardai.

Meanwhile, Gardai also attended the scene of an incident of criminal damage on Thomas Street, Limerick city at approximately 8pm.

“A flare was set off at a commercial premises. Enquiries are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.

It is understood a canopy outside the business was badly damaged. Limerick Fire and Rescue Service were not asked to attend.
