SCAMMERS claiming to be from a global tech giant tried to target a man in Newcastle West over the phone, who reported the cold call to gardaí.
“A man in Newcastle West received a phone call from a blocked number,” said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, crime prevention officer, Henry St garda station.
“The caller claimed to be from Microsoft and claimed there were a number of issues with his computer.
“Thankfully, the man became immediately suspicious and hung up without sharing any personal details.”

Gardaí advise never to disclose any information to cold callers and “exercise caution” around suspicious texts, calls and emails.
“If something doesn’t feel right, hang up immediately,” Sgt O’Halloran continued.
“If you have been a victim of any fraud or scam, change your passwords and PIN codes, contact your financial institution immediately and report the matter to gardaí.”
