A MAN is being questioned by gardai following a major operation in Limerick city targeting the activities of an Organised Crime Group which is operating across the Mid-West.

Gardai say the suspect, aged in his 30s, was arrested on Wednesday as part of ongoing investigations targeting the group which is suspected of being involved in business and residential burglaries as well as the theft of high value vehicles.

"The arrest was made in the course of an intelligence-led operation by gardai from the Clare/Tipperary Division, with support from Regional Support Units and the Garda Air Support Unit.

"The man arrested in connection with this investigation is currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at a garda station in the Southern Region," said a garda spokesperson.

Subject to court orders, the man can be detained without charge for up to seven days.
The investigation is ongoing.
