A MAN arrested and detained in connection with a drugs and cash seizure in Castleconnell on Wednesday morning has been charged.
Gardai arrested two males - one his 20s and a juvenile - and seized cannabis valued at €10,000 and €7k in cash.
Gardai swooped on a number properties in Castleconnell as part of ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the region.
A garda spokesperson said the man, aged in his 20s, has since been charged.
"He is scheduled to appear before Limerick District Court next month.
"The male juvenile has been released without charge, and a referral has been made to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme," said a garda spokesperson.
The searches were carried out by Divisional Drugs Unit, supported by the Armed Support Unit, Dog Unit and members of Operation Croí.
"Searches were carried out at seven domestic residences. As a result, cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €10,000 was seized. Gardaí also seized approximately €6,925 in cash."
The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
"The investigation is ongoing," said the garda spokesperson.
The seizures form part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.
"The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels—international, national, and local—involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs," said a garda spokesperson.
