'Items seized' by gardai following rock-throwing incidents on Limerick - Dublin motorway

An investigation was launched following Wednesday's incident and gardaí have confirmed that a property was searched this Saturday morning

GARDAI investigating an incident of endangerment on the M7 Limerick to Dublin motorway earlier this week have seized a number of items during a search operation.

Shortly after 7.30pm last Wednesday, gardaí responded to reports of stones being thrown at passing vehicles on the motorway at Castlecranna, County Tipperary -  approximately half-way between Birdhill and Nenagh.

While there were no injuries, several heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) were damaged during the course of the incident.

An investigation was immediately launched and gardaí have confirmed that a property was searched this Saturday morning.

"During the early morning search, a number of items were seized by gardaí," said a spokesperson in a post on social media.

"Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information to assist this investigation can contact gardaí in Nenagh 067 50450 or any garda station," they added.

Reacting to Wednesday's incident and speaking before this morning's garda search operation, Limerick TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice Niall Collins described what happened as a "despicable attack on the country's critical transportation industry".

He told Limerick Live. "This is a very serious matter. I commend the drivers involved for their reactions to these awful shocks because if one driver loses control - understandably due to the fright - there could have been a multiple vehicle traffic collision."
