BREAKING: Major security alert forces closure of multiple schools in Clare

A SECURITY threat has led to the sudden closure of multiple schools in Clare, with gardai investigating the credibility of the danger posed.

An email was sent at 2am this Tuesday to a number of schools in Clare purportedly from a man who identifies himself and gives his address in county Clare.

In the email, which Limerick Live has seen, there is a mention of firearms.

Limerick Live contacted Sixmilebridge NS which confirmed they are closed today. Parents in a different school got a text message this morning to say: “Due to exceptional circumstances the school will remain closed today.”

It is understood that the schools are located in the Shannon, Ennis and Sixmilebridge areas of the county.

A garda spokesperson said they are aware of a communication that has been sent to a number of educational establishments in county Clare this Tuesday, February 11.

"Gardaí are currently assessing the contents and credibility of that communication.

"Gardaí are engaging with the affected educational establishment with regard to this ongoing incident. Any senior management of these establishments with concerns are advised to make contact with Ennis garda station on (065) 684 8100.

"No further information is available at this time," said a garda spokesperson.
