A JURY has been sworn in to hear the trial of a Limerick man accused of indecently assaulting two girls in the 1980s.
The jury of six men and six women were empanelled before Judge Colin Daly at Limerick Criminal Circuit Court this Monday morning.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is aged in his 60s. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of indecently assaulting an underage female on dates unknown between January 3, 1984 and May 31, 1989.
Two of the alleged offences are said to have occurred at a property in Limerick and one of the alleged offences is said to have occurred in a shed at the same address.
The accused has also pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecent assault on a second underage female on dates unknown between January 1, 1983 and December 31, 1984 at the same address in Limerick.

The case is being prosecuted by John O’Sullivan BL, instructed by State solicitor Padraig Mawe, with the assistance of a number of both serving and retired gardai.
The accused is represented by Anthony Sammon SC, appearing with Yvonne Quinn BL, instructed by Julianne Kiely.
Judge Daly said the trial will commence at 10.30am on Tuesday.
