A joint Revenue-garda operation targetted organised crime on the Shannon Estuary
FIVE men are in custody following an operation targetting serious organised crime along the Shannon Estuary.
On Wednesday, officers from the Revenue customs service, supported by gardai from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau swooped on a cargo vessel anchored in the Shannon Estuary.
A man aged 28 years was arrested on the boat, on suspicion of committing a criminal offence contrary to section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, which related to the facilitating and enhancing a criminal organisation to commit a serious offence.

The man has been detained at a Garda station in Co. Clare.
Four other men, aged 30, 31, 39 and 45, were also arrested and are being held at garda stations in Co Kerry.
Investigations are ongoing.
