GARDAI have arrested a man as part of the investigation into the fatal incident in Rathkeale on Saturday.

Young mother Marguerita Sheridan, aged 21, lost her life following the hit-and-run in the town.

She was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after the driver of a silver transit van allegedly rammed the gates of a property at Bank Place, Rathkeale at 12.15pm on Saturday.

It is understood Marguerita, who gave birth to a baby boy three weeks ago, was standing in proximity to the gates at the time.

A garda spokesperson said a van believed to have been involved in this incident has been recovered by gardaí and will be subject to a technical examination. Gardai have not revealed where the man was arrested or where the silver Ford Transit van was located.

"The man, aged in his 40s, is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in county Limerick. Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward," said a garda spokesperson.
