Both brothers were in court for the short procedural matter

The Courthouse, Mulgrave Street

TWO BROTHERS from Kildimo have pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court this Wednesday morning to assaulting a man over three years ago.

Daragh Hayes, aged 37, and Cian Hayes, aged 33, of Ballyashea, Kildimo were present for the short procedural matter. The siblings are the older brothers of five-time All-Ireland winning Limerick star hurler Kyle Hayes.

Prosecuting barrister Lily Buckley BL, instructed by State solicitor Brendan Gill, said the brothers could be arraigned before Judge Colin Daly.

Daragh Hayes, who was wearing a navy suit, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm, production of an article, namely a wrench and a second count of producing an article, namely a hurley when the charges were put to him by the court registrar.

Daragh Hayes was represented by Brian McInerney SC, appearing with Kenneth Kerins BL. Mr McInerney made applications for a probation report and a psychologist report to be prepared citing a “complex family dynamic”.

The offences occurred at Ballyashea, Kildimo, on September 29, 2021.

Cian Hayes pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and producing a wrench when the court registrar read out the charges.

Cian Hayes was represented by Lorcan Connolly SC, appearing with Amy Nix BL. Mr Connolly said Cian Hayes is 33-years-old, has no previous convictions, is a married man with a young family and is an engineer with a multinational company. Mr Connolly asked for a probation report to be prepared on behalf of his client.

Judge Daly said he was not going to make any orders today. The judge put the matter back to Friday when he said he would make a decision on the “necessity of the reports”.
