Gun attack on Limerick home for second time

Gun attack on Limerick home for second time

A PROPERTY in county Limerick has now been shot at by criminals twice, Limerick Live has learned.

The gun attack on the home in Banogue occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 29.

In December of 2022, a woman was injured during a drive-by shooting in County Limerick at the same house. The Banogue Drama Group was performing to a packed crowd in the local hall, which is located in the vicinity, at the same time.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident involving the discharge of a firearm at a domestic residence in Banogue, county Limerick on July 29, 2024 at approximately 12am.”

No injuries have been reported to gardai and no arrests have been made at this time.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

Cllr John O’Donoghue said he had a number of very concerned locals contact him after the shooting last month.

“There is a smashing local school, smashing local community, and this is not what this area is about. It is a beautiful part of the countryside just off the main Limerick to Cork road.

“It is a rural area, a very homely area and this is absolutely unacceptable,” said Cllr O’Donoghue.

The Independent Ireland councillor said he raised locals’ concerns with senior gardai.

“They have assured me they are all over this. Garida are  completely understaffed but they are doing the best with the resources they have.

“This is a major blow to the local community - it is a gun attack on a house,” said Cllr O’Donoghue.
