Man released without charge following seizure of drugs and submachine gun during Limerick searches

Gardai at Henry Street are investigating

A MAN, who was arrested by gardai following a major search operation on the outskirts of the city earlier this week, has been released without charge, gardai have confirmed.

During the search of a premises in Ballysimon, which was carried out on Monday, a submachine gun, ammunition and over €100,000 worth of drugs were seized.

In an update, issued this Friday, a garda spokesperson stated. “Gardaí investigating the seizure of a firearm, ammunition and over €100,000 worth of drugs following a search operation in Limerick on Monday, December 18, 2023, have released the arrested man without charge,” a spokesperson said.

“A file will now be prepared for the DPP. Investigations ongoing,” they added.

In a previous statement, gardaí confirmed that a man in his 30's was arrested as part of the investigation.

The drugs and firearm have been sent for forensic and technical analysis.
