GARDAI in Limerick are appealing for witnesses following the theft of an An Post delivery van and some items of mail - just days before Christmas.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed the theft occurred on North Circular Road, Limerick city at approximately 9am on Wednesday.

“The van was recovered by gardaí a short time later, in the Shelbourne Mews area of Limerick city. A number of items were stolen from the van,” they said.

“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward,” they added.

In particular, gardaí are appealing to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the North Circular Road and Shelbourne Mews areas between 8.30am and 9.15am on Wednesday to contact them.

The spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

A spokesperson from An Post confirmed to Limerick Live that several items were stolen from the delivery van and that gardaí were immediately alerted.

“As the investigation is ongoing we cannot comment any further at this time,” the spokesperson said.

“It is a criminal offence to tamper with or delay any item of mail in the course of its sorting or delivery,” they added.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street garda station on (061) 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
