Limerick homelessness charity to host annual Christmas sleep-out fundraiser

DOZENS of volunteers will sleep outside Brown Thomas in Limerick city centre to raise the plight of homelessness people this weekend.

Homelessness charity Novas is inviting the people of Limerick and the wider region to join its annual Christmas Sleep-Out, which takes place from 7pm on Saturday night, December 6.

The charity is appealing for the public to come along on the night, show their support and make a donation to support the work it does.

The Sleep-Out is Novas's main fundraiser of the year, raising vital funds for its frontline homeless services.

Dr Una Burns, the charity's head of advocacy and communications said: "The event shines a light on the irrepressible. Last Friday, the Government published its monthly homelessness figures, the highest ever recorded. Events like this enable us to support more people than ever before.”

Novas is calling on members of the public to drop by, make a donation, cheer on those taking part and help raise essential funds to support people on the margins.

Founded in 2002, Novas provides provides services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Working with families, children and single adults who are disadvantaged or socially excluded across Limerick, Dublin, Kerry, Tipperary, Clare and Cork.
