A POPULAR Adare hotelier has won the first ever Good Food Ireland Host of the Year Award.
Louis Murphy, proprietor of the Dunraven Arms Hotel, secured the prize in recognition of his outstanding service and hospitality skills.
“I was delighted,” said the businessman. “It’s the first time this award has been done and I was so proud for everybody back here in the hotel. For all the team. It wasn’t just for me, it was for everyone. It’s a team effort. We are a family-run hotel. It was an honour on behalf of the family, for all our staff and guests.”
The Good Food Ireland awards, which took place earlier this month in Kildare’s K Club, celebrate the best in Irish food, drink and hospitality from across the island.

In partnership with FBD Insurance for the second consecutive year, these prestigious awards honour the people and places that champion authentic Irish taste, local sourcing, sustainability and exceptional visitor experiences.
Asked what he felt made his hotel stand out, Mr Murphy said it is the familiarity aspect.
“I’m here with my nephew Hugh and my brother Brian. We’d like to think we are here all the time, and our guests get a lovely warm welcome. You’d meet one of the Murphys, then you’d meet one of our fantastic staff. We’ve a lot of staff who have worked here for so many years,” he said.
The Dunraven Arms Hotel was also nominated in the four-star hotel of the year, alongside the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel in Adare. But both missed out on that title to the Cashel Palace Hotel.
