King’s Island Community Centre is in line for a major revamp
PLANS for a revamp to the community centre to serve King’s Island have taken a big step forward.
Stage two approval has been given to the facility by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The €4.8m project is set to see a portion of the existing community building preserved.

On top of this, a new purpose-built structure will be constructed.
The project also encompasses enhancements to the surrounding public space along Verdant Place and the River Shannon.
It means a planning application can now be submitted.
Labour’s city TD Conor Sheehan has welcomed the news.
He said: “This is something that I have been pushing for a long time. It is vital that this is delivered for the people of King’s Island and I am delighted that stage two approval has now been granted. The planning application needs to be lodged as soon as possible to allow work to commence on the design and construction phases.”
“King’s Island Community Centre is at the heart of the area and provides a wide range of services to everyone living in King’s Island,” he said.
“I will continue to support this project in any way I can to ensure the people of King’s Island get the community centre they deserve,” concluded the TD, who welcomed his party leader Ivana Bacik on Friday to open his constituency office.
