Mike Mac Domhnaill, who has written about political issues throughout his career, was moved by the situation in Israel and Palestine to create this particular work
AWARD-winning Newcastle West author Mike Mac Domhnaill is set to launch his latest poetry collection, Poems for Palestine. A searing and timely work that explores decades of suffering and conflict in the region.
Published by Revival Press, the book will be unveiled at two upcoming launch events in Limerick and Newcastle West.
Mac Domhnaill, who won the RTÉ Short Story Award in 2013 and is widely known for his socially conscious writing, said he was compelled to respond to the continuing crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. His new collection addresses both current violence and earlier conflicts in 1982, 2004, 2006, and 2008.

"The West has become complicit in ethnic cleansing, apartheid and genocide," Mac Domhnaill says. "This book simply bears witness."
The primary launch will take place on Friday, September 26 at 7:30pm at the People’s Museum of Limerick, Pery Square, where the author will read selected poems from the collection.
A second launch is scheduled for Saturday, October 11 at 3:00pm at Red Door, The Square, Newcastle West. Both events are free and open to the public.
Tomás Ó Coileáin, poetry editor at Revival Press, will formally introduce the collection at both launches.
All profits from Poems for Palestine will be donated to UNICEF, supporting the organization’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in the region. Attendees are encouraged to purchase the book as a way to contribute to the cause.
Veteran writer and publisher Pádraig Ó Snodaigh has described Mac Domhnaill as a “file engagé”, a committed poet, whose work continues to address political and social injustices.
