FOUR projects run by Limerick City and County Council have been shortlisted for local government awards.

A new IT system designed to improve how strategic projects are planned and delivered across council has been nominated in the local authority innovation category of the Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.

A skills fair the council holds on the city’s northside has been given the nod in the section aimed at promoting economic development.

Going for Gold, the long-standing collaboration between council and the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, which recognises the efforts communities go to to keep their areas clean, is named in the category of supporting sustainable communities.

A scheme to promote walking and cycling routes, cultural heritage experiences and nature attractions along Limerick Greenway, is nominated in the supporting tourism section.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday, November 27 in Dublin.

Mayor John Moran said: “These nominations are a powerful reflection of the partnerships that drive progress and deliver More for Limerick. From community-led environmental initiatives to inclusive employment fairs and transformative tourism projects, each shortlisted entry shows how collaboration between Limerick City and County Council, Limerick communities and Limerick people is delivering real improvements across our city and county.”

Fianna Fail City East councillor and Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, added: “Whether it’s supporting local volunteers through Going for Gold, connecting people to opportunities at the Northside Skills Fair, or showcasing our heritage through the Limerick Greenway, these projects are about people working together to make Limerick better for everyone. I’m delighted to see that work recognised nationally.”
