A RIVERSIDE picnic spot in Limerick city was left in a mess after a group of diners abandoned their leftover fast food packaging and wrappers.

Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) released photos showing a flock of seagulls feeding on the discarded takeaway, turning the area into an unexpected fast food festival for the birds.

The council expressed disappointment, stating, “This is NOT what pride in our city looks like.”

They pointed out that despite the presence of nearby bins, the diners ignored proper disposal and left the area covered in litter.

The freshly painted benches, intended as a scenic place for people to relax and enjoy views of the River Shannon, were instead left covered in greasy wrappers and food remnants.

LCCC emphasised saying,  “This isn’t just litter. It’s an open invitation for pests and a poor experience for others who want to enjoy our public spaces.”

The council called on residents and visitors alike to take responsibility for their rubbish to help maintain the cleanliness and appeal of Limerick’s public areas.

They urged everyone to “Please take your rubbish and help us keep Limerick looking the way it deserves: clean, welcoming and respected. Let’s all do our part.”
