Renovations complete on new communal kitchen in Limerick

Cllr Sarah Beasley officially opened the new community kitchen in Limerick city

WITH THE support of the Limerick City and County Council and Sláintecare, the Mid-West Simon Community has announced the completion of their newly-renovated community kitchen at Oak Lodge, Clare Street, Limerick city.

Oak Lodge currently supports 93 clients and this new space will provide an additional opportunity for skill-building and socialising.

“This community kitchen is being opened with the goal of supporting our clients and the local community by providing access to classes, nutritious meals, and a welcoming space for learning and connection,” said Melissa Fitzgerald, project manager at Mid-West Simon Community.

The community kitchen is also available for use by other local services, by appointment, further strengthening collaboration across the region in the fight against homelessness and food insecurity.

Deputising for the Mayor of Limerick at the event, Cllr Sarah Beasley officially opened the new community kitchen on March 20. She said: “This initiative is about more than just providing meals - it is about empowering some of the most vulnerable members of our community with the skills, confidence, and support they need to take control of their health and well-being.

“I want to congratulate Mid-West Simon Community and all of the partners who have played an important role in bringing this vision to life. May this space bring nourishment, empowerment, and a sense of belonging to all who walk through its doors.”

For over 17 years, Mid-West Simon Community has served the Mid-West region.
