FIVE LOCATIONS in Limerick held charitable events this Christmas and went “the extra mile” for lifesaving aid overseas.

GOAL Mile volunteers fundraised across the county in Crecora, Fedamore, Ballybrown, Newcastle West and at the University of Limerick (UL) to keep a 42-year tradition alive and raise money for vulnerable families across the world.

The CEO of GOAL Mile is Siobhan Walsh from Fedamore and once again, she attended their community event organised by volunteers Shane Fitzgerald and Karl O’Donnell with the support of Fedamore GAA and chairman, Kevin Power.

Siobhan said: “The GOAL Miles organised across Limerick unite people in a powerful display of solidarity and generosity.

“GOAL’s work is only possible because of the incredible generosity of people, who choose to step out and take action to help improve our world. The level of human suffering and loss across the globe due to conflicts is hard to convey in words. Our world is not in a good place.

“To our incredible GOAL Mile volunteer organisers, and to those who took part, thank you for your message of hope through your actions. Every single euro raised truly matters.”

Over the past few days, 500,000 participants across Ireland took part in over 200 events.

Across Co. Limerick, because of the dedicated GOAL Mile volunteer organisers, there were events held in five locations: Crecora GAA Pitch, Skehanagh, University of Limerick Athletics Track, Fedamore GAA Grounds, Castle Demense Park, Newcastle West and Ballybrown Community Resource Centre.

GOAL has a team of 3,000 people working in 15 countries with extremely vulnerable communities. Nearly 300 million people were in need of humanitarian assistance, with children disproportionately affected in 2024.
