LIMERICK City Fine Gael TD and Minister of State for the OPW, Kieran O’Donnell has welcomed that Limerick City and County Council are to carry out a major extension to Castleconnell Playground, located at the Ferrybank in Castleconnell village.

This is something he has campaigned for with the local community. Consultants will shortly be appointed by the council to design the extension. Minister O’Donnell recently secured a general clean-up and power-washing, with new swings and seats installed at the existing playground, and painting will be carried out there shortly.

“I am delighted that Limerick City and County Council have advised me that they will very shortly appoint Consultants to design a major extension and enhancement to the existing Castleconnell playground, located at the Ferrybank in Castleconnell village," said Minister O'Donnell.

“The plans for the playground extension and enhancement at Castleconnell playground will go out to public consultation and observations. In this regard, I have already discussed with the council to ensure that there is very early public consultation with local community groups, residents and stakeholders as part of this design process. When these plans are finalised, it will then go before the council for approval and thereafter the extension and enhanced playground will be constructed. I will continue to work to ensure this happens as quickly as possible.

“This Castleconnell playground extension is something I have been working on extensively with local residents and families to ensure there is a playground in Castleconnell Village that can accommodate the growing populations of families and children in the area. Whilst the current playground has served the area over time, there is now a great need for a major extension and enhancement to be carried out at Castleconnell Playground.

“When completed, this major extension and enhancement to the existing playground in Castleconnell will be greatly enjoyed by families and children," concluded Minister O'Donnell.
