THREE Limerick clubs will enjoy home fixtures in the energia All-Ireland League this Saturday.
UL Bohemians were the only Treaty-based side to record a win in round six of AIL action last weekend. In Division 1A, both Young Munster and Garryowen suffered defeats. Munsters’ had to settle for a losing bonus point as they fell short away to Clontarf last weekend, 20-26. The sides were level 14-14 at the interval with Shane O’Leary and Jake O’Riordan scoring tries for the visitors and Julien Leszczynski converting both. Leszczynski added two penalties after the break. Munsters’ will try and move from their fifth place spot on the table when they welcome City of Armagh to Tom Clifford Park this Saturday.
Garryowen were the only Limerick side to have home advantage in round six, but this was not enough to secure them a victory as they were defeated 29-19 by UCD. The ‘light blues’ remain bottom of the 1A table with Donnacha Byrne scoring three tries for Garryowen, all converted by Kelvin Langan. The students were ahead at the break - Garryowen 7 UCD 24. Garryowen will now face a trip to Dublin on Saturday to take on Terenure College at 2.30pm in Lakelands Park.
In Division 1B, Shannon have slipped to eighth place after their fourth loss so far this season with their most recent defeat to Blackrock on a scoreline of 24-10. Tries by Eoghan Clarke and Jack O’Donnell were not enough for Shannon. The Dublin side were narrowly ahead at half-time, 7- 5. Shannon host high-flying Nenagh Ormond at Thomond Park this Saturday, 5pm kick-off.
Meanwhile, Old Crescent will look to bounce back from their 35-17 loss to Instonions as they welcome Ballymena to Takumi Park on Saturday in Division 2A.
Despite getting three late tries from Brian Molloy, Conor Hogan and Jamie Duggan, it wasn't enough for Crescent to get over the line with Ronan McKenna adding a conversion.
UL-Bohs were the only Limerick side to record a victory in round six, when securing a 27-22 victory over Galwegians, who are yet to get a win in the Division 2B league. This win keeps UL-Bohs’ in fourth place in that division. Oisin Fagan, Kian Regan and Paul Clancy were the Red, Red Robins try scorers, with Fagan converting all thee tries as well as kicking two penalties.
The Annacotty side will now make the long journey to Belfast to take on Malone in round seven this Saturday afternoon.
Bruff are still on the bottom of the Division 2C league table after suffering a tough 21-6 loss to Midleton last weekend. This is Bruff's sixth defeat since the beginning of the season. Henry Jephson scored two tries for the east Cork side and Jack Colbert kicked kicked the remaining points.
Ethan Anderson scored two penalties for Bruff in the opening half as the sides were level 6-6 at half time. Bruff will face another away trip this weekend as they take on Tullamore, who are only one place above them in the league, in Spollanstown at 2:30pm on Saturday.
Elsewhere UL-Bohs women continued their excellent start to the season with another huge 55-8 victory over Ballincollig.
High-flying UL-Bohs travel to Ashtown Lane to take on Wicklow RFC on Saturday.
