NEWCASTLE West is embracing the spirit of the festive season once again as late-night Christmas shopping returns, bringing renewed energy and festive charm to the bustling county town.

For the next two Thursdays - December 11 and December 18 - the streets will come alive under the soft glow of festive
lights.

The Square in the centre of the town is the natural gathering point, framed by twinkling lights and the colourful
decorations that drape storefronts and lampposts.

The Christmas tree positioned against the dramatic backdrop of the majestic Desmond Castle transforms The Square into a picture-perfect festive scene, drawing families, friends, and visitors to gather, shop, and soak in the atmosphere.

As the Christmas rush builds, local businesses across the town are extending their hours, offering shoppers a relaxed, community-centred alternative to the rush of city crowds.

"Stepping into the independently run shops, cosy and festive, filled with handcrafted ornaments, locally sourced treats, and unique gifts adding to the sense that Christmas shopping here is less of an errand and more of a seasonal ritual," said local business woman Aoife Hayes.

Local eateries are supporting the initiative over the next two weeks by offering early-bird menus, ideal for those looking to enjoy dinner before or after browsing the shops.

Several bars are also adding to the festive buzz with special offerings and music, ensuring the town feels alive well into the
evening.

Those supporting the late-night initiative say it highlights what the community in Newcastle West does best - supporting local, celebrating together, and creating memories under the glow of Christmas lights and the watchful silhouette of Desmond Castle.
