Winners of the Christmas in Limerick Merry and Bright Challenge announced

Best Christmas House Decorations – Limerick City and County winner Vilmos Krizsan, Knockainey

THE WINNERS of the Christmas in Limerick Merry and Bright Challenge have been announced, winning a total of €10,000 in prize money between them.

This competition, which saw businesses, residents, and offices across the city and county transform their spaces into dazzling displays of holiday cheer, has come to a conclusion with Limerick City and County Council choosing five overall winners, all winning €2,000 each.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, congratulated the winners and thanked the community for their participation.

"I am delighted with the response to our call to make Limerick Merry and Bright this Christmas," he said.

"The creativity and effort put into decorating homes and businesses has truly lit up all of Limerick. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who participated this year and I am already looking forward to seeing next year’s entries."

The challenge was judged by Lisa Kearney from Rooney Auctioneers and Liam Dwan, general manager of Brown Thomas, who were both impressed by the high standard of entries.

Lisa Kearney said: "It was wonderful to see the high standard of entries from across the city and county. The decorations were stunning, and it was a tough job to choose the winners."

While Liam Dwan added that the displays have "added to the special atmosphere at this time of year".

"It was a pleasure to judge the Christmas in Limerick Merry and Bright Challenge and I applaud all those who entered for their creativity and effort," he said.

The list of winners of the Christmas in Limerick Merry and Bright Challenge is as follows: Best Christmas Shop Front - Limerick’s Historic City Centre was won by Coqbull, Thomas Street.

The Best Christmas Shop Front – Limerick County title went to Ela Maria, Newcastle West.

The Limerick Christmas Tree Competition – Georgian Quarter Shops/Office title was won by LPYMA, O’Connell Street.

The Limerick Christmas Tree Competition – Residents in the Georgian Quarter went to Eva Birdthistle and finally, the Best Christmas House Decorations – Limerick City and County winner was Vilmos Krizsan, Knockainey Co. Limerick.

The winners were selected based on creativity, originality, overall visual impact, use of lights and decorations, theme consistency, and effort and attention to detail.
