It was a busy weekend for Limerick Camogie with John West Féile action.
Twenty eight clubs participated, with each club fielding approximately 25 young players spread over three venues throughout Limerick.
The players braved the elements, from wind, rain and hailstones and put on some fine displays of camogie. The groups were divided into three divisions, with the top two teams in each one contesting the finals on Sunday in Mungret.
Despite challenging conditions during Saturday’s group stages, Sunday brought a welcome change, even the sunshine made an appearance for a while.
Mungret GAA’s pitch was in immaculate condition for the three finals, and all were treated to some fantastic contests.
The Division 1 final saw a tightly contested first half between Na Piarsaigh and Newcastle West. However, with the wind at their backs in the second half, the girls from the west proved too strong for Na Piarsaigh. An outstanding performance from Emma Horgan, who scored 2-8, was key to their victory.
Final score: Newcastle West 3-8, Na Piarsaigh 1-3
The Division 2 final between Croagh-Kilfinny and St Ailbes followed a similar pattern, with a close first half before Croagh-Kilfinny’s strength and power saw them pull away.
Final score: Croagh-Kilfinny 1-6 St Ailbes 1-0
This victory adds to Croagh-Kilfinny’s Division 3 title from 2025 — a fantastic achievement.
The final game of the day was an exciting and closely fought encounter, with both Glenroe and Pallasgreen chasing their first ever Féile title.
Glenroe started brightly, but Pallasgreen responded brilliantly with two goals to take the lead. They held that advantage until injury time, when Glenroe struck for a crucial equalising point to bring the game to extra time.
In extra time, Glenroe found the all-important goal, and despite a strong push from Pallasgreen, it proved decisive.
Final score, after extra time: Glenroe 2-3, Pallasgreen 2-0.
Thank you to all host clubs — Ballybrown, Croagh, Glenroe, Ballylanders, and Mungret GAA — for their hospitality. Their pitches were in excellent condition despite the challenging weather.
Limerick Camogie also expressed their gratitude to all first responders who were on hand throughout the weekend.
The winners will now represent Limerick at national Féile on June 20 in Carlow/Laois.
