MUNSTER rugby president Brendan Foley is to be the guest speaker at this year’s Limerick Civic Trust Christmas dinner.

No 1 Pery Square will next month play host to the event, which is a vital fundraiser for the heritage group.

A self-funding charity, Limerick Civic Trust undertakes a programme of events for the general improvements of the city’s environment.

It works with the local authority, state agencies, and all the sectors of Limerick’s commercial, professional, industrial and community life in order to achieve this.

The Christmas dinner is for many in Limerick’s civic and business community, the curtain raiser to many festive celebrations across the city.

It takes place on Friday, December 6, with a drinks reception at 12.30pm, followed by the meal at 1pm.

Tickets remain available, priced at €65 and are available from www.limerickcivictrust.ie, or by telephoning 061-313399.

In June at the AGM of the Munster Branch, Shannon RFC clubman Brendan Foley was elected as the new president of the Munster Branch for season 2024/25.

Foley began his rugby journey in St Mary’s just 60 years ago. He then went on to have an illustrious playing career with Shannon before getting the chance to don the red of Munster and the green of Ireland for a number of memorable matches.

As a player Foley featured for Munster during the 70s and 80s and was also a part of the team that overcame the mighty All Blacks in 1978.

During his tenure with Shannon and Munster he was also picked for Ireland and did three tours and ended with 11 caps.
