Storm Amy has resulted in fallen trees and electricity poles, blocking a road in the county

AS STRONG winds and heavy rain continue to batter Limerick city and county, while Storm Amy rages on, another road in the county is due to be closed.

A tree is blocking a road in Askeaton and Limerick City and County Council, as of just after 4pm today (Friday, October 3), are working to put a temporary road closure in place, until the road can be cleared and made safe.

The affected road is the L-1236 Aghalacka road in Askeaton and a tree has fallen, taking electricity poles and wires with it and the road is completely blocked.

Elsewhere, other areas of the county, particularly in West Limerick, have experienced flooding.

Compared to other counties, such as Galway, Donegal and parts of Dublin, Limerick appears to be escaping the worst of this storm.

All of Limerick is under a Status Yellow wind warning until midnight tonight.

Members of the public have been warned not to travel unnecessarily and to never approach fallen wires or attempt to move any obstacles on a road themselves.
