A NUMBER of schools in Limerick have decided to close or delay opening today due to the overnight snow.

Cólaiste Ide agus Iosef in Abbeyfeale took to social media to announce its closure: "After consulting with our ETB and other post primary schools, Coláiste Ide agus Iosef will be closed today due to weather conditions."

Two trucks got stuck in Abbeyfeale on the Kerry border road towards Limerick this morning, according to RTÉ Radio 1.

Coláiste Chiaráin will also remain closed today. Mungret Community School has a delayed opening until 10am this morning. However, students are welcome before to study up until 10am.

John the Baptist CS in Hospital has issued a notice detailing that Meanus, Bruff and Ballylanders buses will not run this morning. "All other buses are running at present but may be delayed due to conditions. We will update as soon as we know more. We urge everyone to be cautious and take care."

There was a light dusting of snow in Kilmallock while Bruff escaped the worst of the snow. Roads around the country are also still quite slippy.

Limerick City & County Council have snowploughs out dealing with accumulations of snow affecting mainly parts of West Limerick. The R513 at Ballylanders is closed - a snow plough is on site.

Ploughs are working on N21 Barna and clearing the Carrickerry to Athea road. There is up to 10 cm of snow in the Athea area. Drivers are also on the way to clear the N21 North and R520 and R522.
