Big family news from Limerick hospital for Munster rugby player who is set to retire at the end of the season

John Ryan, from Berrings in Cork, first signed with Munster Rugby in 2010 and himself and his wife have just announced the birth of their baby
MUNSTER Rugby legend John Ryan and his wife Zita have welcomed a new addition to their family and have thanked the staff of University of Limerick Maternity Hospital (UMHL) for all of their help and care.
Taking to his Instagram page last night, Monday, John said: "Jesse Lewis Ryan our precious baby boy. Born on Thursday, 16th April very prematurely at 25 weeks.
"His name Jesse means 'gift from God' and Lewis means 'warrior' - both names very fitting for the strength and resilience he is showing us everyday.
"He has a long road ahead under the watchful eyes and caring hands of the incredible UL Mat NICU staff - every single one of whom we cannot thank enough for the care shown to our beautiful boy and to the entire UL Mat team for being there for both of us when we needed them most, you saved us both."
Already father to his three children - Felix, Gaia and Rex, little Jesse is sure to get a warm welcome when he's ready to go home after some tender loving care in UMHL.

In April, John Ryan who is originally from Berrings in Cork, announced that he would be retiring at the end of the season.
He first signed with Munster Rugby in 2010 and has 25 Irish caps and a Grand Slam.
His career has seen him play with London Irish, Wasps, and he spent a season in New Zealand with Super Rugby Pacific side Chiefs in 2023.
He has so far had more than 300 professional appearances.
The 37-year-old has the third-highest appearances with only Stephen Archer and Donncha O’Callaghan playing more games for Munster.
In announcing his retirement exactly one week before the premature birth of his son, he paid tribute to his wife and children.
“I have enjoyed every minute of the journey but it’s time to hang up the boots.
“It has been a dream to represent Munster for so many years. It was also a massive honour to represent Ireland and to play at a World Cup.
“I’d especially like to thank my wife Zita for always being there supporting me, every step of the way. For picking up the pieces when it was all falling apart and for travelling across the world when an unexpected opportunity came knocking.
"I wouldn’t have played as long as I did without your love and support. Also my 3 kids, Felix, Gaia and Rex who love coming to the games and are my biggest supporters. They are the reason I play.
“I will forever be grateful to have worn the Munster jersey and I look forward to supporting from the stands in the years to come.
“I am excited for the next chapter and to spending a lot more time at home with my wife and kids.”
