Limerick athletes impress at host of national and international events

County Cross Country Day 2:

DAY 2 of the county cross country season took place in Newcastle West on Sunday last. The first race of the day was the U18 boys and senior women's race. Patrick Mulcahy of West Limerick AC was the sole competitor in the boys U18 race and ran a strong race showing good signs of fitness.

Limerick ACs new recruit Natasha Kelly showed her class running away from the field in the second half of the race to take the win. Sophie Moroney (Emerald AC) challenged Natasha in the early parts of the race and was rewarded with a second place finish.

Grace O’Donnell (West Limerick AC) rounded out the podium in 3rd. Limerick AC won the team title followed by West Limerick AC and Dooneen AC. The senior men's race had a strong filed of 30 athletes with Back2Boston RC AC making their debut.

Declan Moore (Bilboa AC) gave a masterclass in front running setting a strong pace from the start and not relenting to take the win. Karl Lenihan, Killian Lynch (Both West Limerick AC) and Alan McCutcheon (Dooneen AC) formed a chase pack behind Declan duking it out for second and third.

Ultimately Alan made a long run for home securing the silver with Karl getting up for Bronze. The team title went to West Limerick Ac for the fifth year in a row on 30 points, with Limerick AC close behind on 36 and Dooneen AC on 39.

The U 10 girl’s race was the closest race of the day with the first 4 girls finishing within 1 second of each other. Ava O’Toole (Bilboa AC) was deemed to have crossed the line first with Emma Sheehy (West Limerick AC), Caoimhe Burke (Limerick AC) and Sarah Flynn (Dooneen AC) rounding out the top 4.

Limerick AC took the team title putting four runners in the top eight positions. West Limerick AC won silver in the team race and Dooneen AC won bronze. The U10 boys race saw a brilliant 1-2 finish for West Limerick AC’s Eoghan Collins and Jack Downes. Sean Noonan (Limerick AC) won the bronze medal.

West Limerick AC won the team title with their four inside the top ten. Limerick AC took second place and Dooneen won bronze. The Limerick AC U12 girls put on a clinic of cross country running to take 1st to 6th and 8th place in the race. Alana Ryan won the individual race, followed by Keeva O’Loughlin in 2nd and Caragh Treacy in third.

Limerick AC won gold and silver in the team event with West Limerick AC taking bronze. In the boys U12 race Conall Redmond, Archie McCartan (Both Limerick AC) and Ciarán McLoughlin (West Limerick AC) took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Limerick AC won the team title in this race. Eva McMahon (Dooneen AC) stormed to victory in the U14 girl’s race followed home by Grace Power and Crea Moore (Both Limerick AC).

Limerick AC won the team race ahead of Dooneen AC and West Limerick AC. Killian Coman (Limerick AC) Alex O’Sullivan (West Limerick AC) and Rian Kiely Keogan (Limerick AC) were the top 3 in the boys U14 race. In the girls U16 race Faye Moore and Tiyaa Coughlan (Both Limerick AC) took 1st and 2nd with Caoilin Crowley (Dooneen AC) getting up for third.

Darragh Whelan and John Farrell (Both Limerick AC) were 1st and 2nd in the boys U16 race with Sean Coleman (Dooneen AC) winning the bronze medal. Limerick AC won the team race ahead of Dooneen AC in second. Aimee McMahon (Dooneen AC) and Emily Murphy (Limerick AC) were 1st and 2nd in the girls U18 race.

World Mountain Running Championships:

JOHN Kinsella took on the best mountain runners in the world on Friday morning in Canfranc Spain. Determined to make up for missing out on the previous championships through injury John, tackled the 45km, 3500meters of elevation gain course in under 6 hours. A strong performance from a brilliant athlete.

Rathfarnham 5km:

One of the fastest 5km’s in the country took place this Sunday in Dublin. The overall race was won by Efrem Gidey in 13.49 with Cheryl Nolan taking the wins title in 15.44.

Ben Emes (Dooneen AC) was the first Limerick athlete home knocking nearly 30 seconds off his pb to run 15.29. Ide Nic Domhnaill (West Limerick AC) was the second woman overall running 15.50 with sister Sorcha close behind in 16.04.
