Limerick athletes at the Munster finals of the Cairn Community Games in Clonmel
THE Streets of Galway is one of Ireland’s longest running races, now in it’s 39th year.
Those from Limerick who travelled up the M18 included Aisling Fitzgerald (West Limerick) 34:50, the An Bru duo of Niall Shanahan 24:54 and Niall O’Riordan 27:47.
Dooneen’s Ger Meehan remains one of only three athletes to have taken part in all 39 editions.
Liz Leonard flew the Kilmallock flag.
Community Games
Congratulations to all Limerick athletes who took part in the Community Games regional finals in Clonmel.
The Cairn Community Games Track and Field and Outdoor Field sports finals take place in SETU Carlow on August 24.
Huge congratulations to Bilboa’s Ava O’Toole who came second in the U10 hurdles at the Regional Athletics finals in Clonmel.
West Limerick visit
Tom Walsh, New Zealand throws athlete, was training at the Limerick Regional Athletics Hub during the week.
There, he met with Tom Galvin of West Limerick Athletics Club.
Tom Walsh is a four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist.
He holds the current national record for the shot put in New Zealand.
He is currently preparing for the World Athletics Championships next month in Tokyo.
Fixtures
The Limerick County Senior Cross Country and Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships take place on Sunday, September 28 at the Newcastle West Showgrounds.
The Charleville Half Marathon on September 14 is focal point for a lot of Limerick athletes at present.
