Limerick Athletics Notes - New Limerick Half Marathon a success

SEAN Doyle of Cork City AC won the inaugural Run Limerick Half Marathon, crossing the finish line at Thomond Park in a time of 1:08:17 last Sunday, August 3.
This was enough for a relatively comfortable victory over Karl Fitzmaurice of Shannon AC who was 2nd in 1:11:07 with Aidan O’Donnell of West Waterford taking ‘Bronze’ in 1:13:48.
Linda Grogan of West Waterford took top honours in the women’s race in a time of 1:28:18. Mary Stuart down from Mullingar was second in time of 1:32:17, with Ellen Bermingham from Galway 3rd in 1:34:17.

Selected times included Kieran O’Brien 1:19:06, and John Whitaker 1:22:13- (both Dooneen) Karol Downey 1:39:06 and both West Limerick, Alan Reidy (Bilboa)1:42:48, Sam Hand ran well for 1:23:55 and 19th place with clubmate Liz Leonard home in1:56:32.
Overall race series victory, (based on an athletes best three finishes from the five events) went to Niall O’Callaghan of West Limerick and Pamela Kirby from Bilboa.
Conditions were humid and over 900 entries were sold.
Well done to Timmy Crowe and all at justrace.ie on providing Limerick athletics with a great service on the bank holiday weekend.

Fixtures
The Limerick County Senior Cross Country and Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships take place on Sunday, September 28 at the Newcastle West Showgrounds.
The County Masters and Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championship takes place on Sunday, November 9 in Newcastle West.
The Charleville International Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 14 at 10am.
