Definitely Maybe! I have no idea who Oasis are, here’s what you can do this weekend instead

If you too have no idea who Liam and Noel Gallagher are, and do not care to learn, there's plenty of other things to do across the country

Definitely Maybe! I have no idea who Oasis are, here’s what you can do this weekend instead

If you have no plans to go to the Oasis concert, there is still plenty to do across Ireland this weekend

If you have no idea who Oasis are, and frankly could not pick a Gallagher brother out of a line up, you might be feeling left out of the excitement of this weekend.

While superfans are queuing for merchandise and practicing their ‘Wonderwall’ singalongs, the rest of us can still have a fun-filled weekend, away from Croke Park.

From the glitz and glamour of the Rose of Tralee to Pop Up Movies at Johnstown Castle or watching the Premier League on TV (the new season begins this weekend), there are some brilliant things to do across Ireland that have absolutely nothing to do with the Gallagher brothers gig.

Think of this as has your Britpop free weekend survival guide, Liam and Noel can wait.

If pageantry and local traditions are more your speed then nostalgic 90s reunions, you can immerse yourself in the glamours spectacle of the Rose of Tralee festival, which runs until Tuesday next, August 19.

With parades, live shows, a 5k road race and exhibitions celebrating the history of the festival leading up to grand finale in the Dome on Tuesday August 19 it may be worth taking a trip to Kerry.

For those seeking a taste of rural life this weekend, the Cappamore Agricultural Show in County Limerick promises a full day of livestock competitions, food stalls, craft displays and family-friendly entertainment this Saturday August 16. This traditional event is a great way to enjoy the Irish countryside this weekend.

But if you would rather trade glitter and goats for goals and tackles, Ireland’s packed sports calendar has you covered this weekend without ever hearing a Gallagher guitar riff.

Sports fans, from live GAA club fixtures and hurling charity matches to the Premier League making its much anticipated return, you can get your stadium chant adrenaline fix without having to go to Croke Park.

There are no fewer than eight Premier League matches on TV this weekend, as the 2025/26 season gets underway - beginning with the reigning champions Liverpool taking on AFC Bournemouth this Friday. For many, the fixture of the weekend features Manchester United and Arsenal at 4.30pm on Sunday.

For those who want to leave the house, a trip to Carlow may be on the cards for hurling fans, as the Hurling for Cancer Research match returns on Monday,  August 18 in Netwatch Cullen Park. With teams managed by horseracing legends,  Jim Bolger and Davy Russell, this star-studded event for a noble cause cannot be missed.

If your looking for a late night activity this weekend, but music and festivals are not your thing, you can enjoy a more relaxed outdoors evening at the Open-Air Movies Under the Stars at the Johnstown Castle Estate in Wexford, with classic films Mamma Mia and The Bodyguard, playing from 8.45pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Whether you are into festivals, agriculture shows, sports or outdoor activities, Ireland has plenty on to keep your weekend busy, so even if Oasis is not in your plans, there’s no shortage of ways to make you weekend as unforgettable as theirs.
