Famous YouTuber who slams Dublin as 'yuck' raves about 'much cleaner' Limerick

A YOUTUBER who criticised Dublin calling it a “s*** city” and instead, praised Limerick during a travel vlog, has gained much traction online. 

Spanian is a famous YouTuber who has visited and travelled around the world as part of a series entitled Tracing My Heritage.

In part four, the series finale, the Australian star travels around Ireland and visits Belfast, Dublin, and Limerick.

Describing himself as 20% Irish, the Sydney-based star’s website also says he is a “former criminal”, which he jokes is related to Limerick, saying “thanks to you, I spent 30 years in prison”.

Spanian,  whose real name is Anthony Lees, has 894k subscribers on YouTube. He claims that his grandfather’s surname was Fitzgerald and that his ancestors come from Limerick. 

Prior to visiting Limerick which he says is “much cleaner compared to Dublin” and “much more Irish”, he left a scathing review of the capital, branding it “yuck”.

“I’m not going to lose Irish fans over it. They probably know this city [Dublin] is rubbish itself,” he said.

“We got an early train to Limerick and we finally made it, to Limerick. That’s the home, the town of my Fitzgerald family. I’m excited for Limerick, I hope it’s cool.”

Upon arriving in the Treaty county, the YouTuber is recognised by people, who he calls his “cousins”. 

“People keep telling me it’s stab city. Every time I told anyone I was going to Limerick, they were like ‘What? You’re crazy’.”

Saying that Limerick is a “proper big city”, Spanian seemed to be impressed with the city centre. He said “I wish we didn’t stay in Dublin, I wished we stayed here overnight. I honestly thought it was going to be a little town.”

He visited Starbucks on Thomas St after getting the train to Colbert Station from Dublin, and researched the Fitzgerald family, learning the historic background of the well-known dynasty. 

Exploring further, he visits Aroma Coffee House on Roche’s Street and samples a full Irish breakfast, which he describes as a “cracker breakfast”. 

On his tour of the city, he strolls down to the riverfront along Bishop’s Quay in the sunshine, towards the Hunt Museum and across the footbridge at the Potato Market. 

Admiring the scenes along the way, he researches the Vikings and the history of the city, before exploring more in the tour of King John’s Castle.

“This place looks really historic. Look at these walls! [The walls of Limerick]. What a street we came across! Thank you Lord. Wow brother!

“Laters Limerick. Love you and leave you. Such a mad learning experience, I’m very, very Limerick lad. I’ve been Limerick before I ever knew what Limerick was.”
