THREE IRISH actors have been nominated for the 2024 Golden Globe awards, taking place early next year.
Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Andrew Scott are among the nominees listed this Monday as aspiring recipients of the prestigious award.
The 81st Golden Globes will take place on Sunday, January 7 from 8pm to 11pm, live on CBS. The awards aim to celebrate the best film and television series throughout the year, and the actors who feature.
Two new categories have been added to next year's award ceremony, including that of cinematic and box office achievement in motion pictures and best stand-up comedian on television.
The three Irish stars are going head-to-head in the same category, to be crowned Male Best Actor (drama). There are six nominees in total in this category, (half of them being Irish!), with others being Leonardo Di Caprio, Bradley Cooper and Colman Domingo.
Barry Keoghan, Cillian Murphy and Andrew Scott will compete for the title for their work in three different films - Barry for his role in his latest film Saltburn, Cillian for his role in box-office hit, Oppenheimer and Andrew for his role in upcoming film, All of Us Strangers.
Other nominees include Margot Robbie for Barbie, which led the way with nine nominations and Oppenheimer following closely behind, with eight. Actor Joaquin Phoenix was nominated for Best Actor for his work in the comedy Beau Is Afraid, while actress Meryl Streep broke her own record for all-time Golden Globe nominations.
