Dylan Flynn & the Dead Poets will be playing in Dolan's in December
LIMERICK five-piece Dylan Flynn & the Dead Poets have released a new reflective single.
Titled When I Was Young, the track blends elements of country rock with indie rock as the band leans into a darker sound.
The lyrics detail growing up and realising that everything in your life is changing, while trying to hold on to the past.
The track opens with an immediate drum beat that is paired with swirling slide guitar, bringing the track to life. Flynn’s vocal starts off quiet and intimate, but grows into an emotional belt that lifts the track to new heights.
Speaking of the new track, Dylan Flynn said: “I was reflecting on the past year, and thinking about how busy everyone’s life is now, all the people who aren’t around anymore, and longing for the simplicity that you take for granted when you are young.
The chorus came to me first and I knew straight away it was going to be a favourite.”
When I Was Young was written, recorded and self-produced from the band's small studio space in Limerick city, with long term collaborator Mike Gavin of Windings.
Mike co-produced and mixed the track, while Richard Dowling (Foo Fighters, Brian Eno, Villagers) mastered it.
The five-piece will be playing in Dolan's Warehouse on December 21 as part of their latest Irish tour.
