Limerick musician to share long-awaited release

E 4 Luv is Joyce's second single Picture: Ana Elizabeth Aguila

LIMERICK musician, Joyce, will release her new single, E 4 LUV this October.

Speaking of her next offering, the Pallasgreen native said: “It depicts, a story of, like, dissociation after a traumatic event, for lack of a better word.

“It shows the state of shock and numbness.

“The actual music itself really aids and complements the lyrics in the way that is nostalgic.”

Inspired by sounds of the 80s, Joyce says that period gives her a sense of calm and nostalgia.

“The 80s aesthetic gives me such a sense of nostalgia which is crazy because obviously I was not there,” she laughs. It's this weird feeling in my stomach of just not feeling familiar and being dissociated, being out of it, being like in a trance-like state.”

For Joyce, music is a family affair. She was highly inspired by her grandparents, as her grandmother was a singer, and her grandfather used to play in a band.

Since the release of her first single, iPhone Tapes, last December, Joyce has been busy playing live.

This summer, she performed at Body and Soul alongside Denise Chaila.

Her next song, E 4 Luv will be part of her EP, which she has been working on with her band.

“The EP has a lot of mention of mortality, life and the lack of living. I do find life really interesting.

“I've said this a billion times but I'm just a curious little human wondering what is going on. and I'm using music to kind of help me debunk that, but also just to put it down,” she says.

If she started making music, it is because she believes musicians are storytellers.

And she too, has stories to tell.

“All future projects will kind of all intertwine into one because it is just the massive, massive story of my life, from whatever time I decide to write about it until the day that I decide to no longer write, or the day I'm no longer here. There's a lot of meaning and depth to the music.”

She says the music she is in making now is different to the one she started with.

“It's a contrast to the music I originally started making back in 2019 where it was all just fun, party games. But even that music has a space and some depth to it, you know, because that period of time was just about fun and games.”

Joyce's next single, E 4 Luv, is now available to pre-save on the platform DistroKid.

The song will be out on October 27.
