Joe Duggan's artistic practice includes sculpture, painting, photography, video, publishing and installation
TWO Limerick natives have been selected to exhibit at a prestigious art institution in London.
Joe Duggan and Stephen Murphy will join the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition for the world's 'most joyful art experience.'
Joe Duggan's artistic practice includes sculpture, painting, photography, video, publishing and installation. Through various media, his work considers ideas of value and identity. Joe focuses on themes of family, the artist's role in society as well as the influence of hierarchical systems, including religion.
His work 'Better Better', will be on display this summer alongside works from artists Caroline Walker and Ryan Gander. The meticulously created artwork embodies layers of paint, representing its evolution over an extended period of time. Each layer covers previous iterations, offering a history of the paint.
The repetition of the word ‘better' within the painting prompts contemplation of the choices artists make when selecting subject matter and striving for improvement.
According to the artist, the word ‘better' then becomes a symbol of progress and desire, for yearning, for advancement.
The artwork seamlessly combines the language of paint with written words, treating them as equal materials for artistic expression. Joe holds a MA in Fine Art (Photography).
